Apparatus Info
High-speed biaxial rig
Biaxial
Texas A&M, Handin lab B34
HSB
Biaxial apparatus suited for rock friction tests at seismic rates. The load frame can measure frictional properties in double-direct-shear under normal stresses up to 30 MPa, slip rates up to 1 m/s, and total displacements up to 35 mm. The pneumatic-powered loading frame with adjustable venting speed and hydraulic damper can run velocity stepping experiments with controlled velocity profiles and stick-slip. The LabVIEW FPGA data acquisition platform enables high-speed data acquisition up to 50 kHz, and an infrared camera with high frame-rate sampling (up to 1200 frame-per-second) can record fault surface temperature evolution at sub-millisecond resolution.
Apparatus Features
Loading; Unloading; Friction; Frictional Sliding; Slide Hold Slide; Stepping; Dynamic Tests; Biaxial Stress/Strain; Acoustic Events; Infrared
